I'm curious because I'm wondering if I should go out and buy a new mobo that supports AGP 8x or just leave it running at AGP 4x... There are only a couple of motherboards that support 8X AGP. Personally I don't think there is much difference... it's more of an incremental improvement than a major breakthrough.

AGP or PCI video card?
From what I have gleened, I'm thinking the whole 'dual mode' vs. 'single mode' is a lot like AGP 4X vs AGP 8X. It's a bandwidth issue. While the speed of the memory does not change, the transfer rate between the CPU and the memory increases going to dual channel mode. I could be wrong. But, I think that's the gist

VGA 8x vs. MBO sa AGP 4x???
The AGP and PCI bus on even the latest MBs are still intertwined so the pipeline is still limited to what the bus will allow. AGP 8x reserves just a small amount more of the pipeline for video textures than AGP 4x, but in real life application, there is very little difference. Do a Google search for AGP 4x vs 8x

The overall gain is still not a geometric increase in speed, more like a fractional increase. Also, Lightwave uses DirectDraw for the user interface panel drawing so a better DirectX card benefits slightly there. You really need to speed up whole system, your RAM, your hard drive, your processor, your AGP bus,

AGP 4x vs. 8x ?
4X agp hasn't been fully exploited yet, not even 2X, and technologies like Truform might make higher bandwith less necessary. I guess I was worried not about a loss of speed, but would the card even fit/function in a 4x slot. A few other things are confusing me as I look online at the multitude of cards out there: how do "Core clock" and "Memory clock" fit in? What do they represent? What should I be looking for? Which is more important?

Umm... pa 4x vs 8x i nije neka strahovita razlika (vise marketinski trik, pogotovo za kratice tog ranga) pa ti je bolje drzati na 4x i miran si, barem dok ne dodjes do smislenog rjesenja.
